Breast cancer and me.

One of the reasons I wanted to create a fitness blog which focuses on improving your mental well-being as well as your physical well-being is because my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in February of last year. My mum has had a lot of things wrong with her health over the last few years with breast cancer just being one of many. She is always very upbeat and tries to make a positive out of everything (a bit like me) although sometimes you can’t help but get very down and depressed about things.

Eat. Exercise. Sleep. Repeat.

I want to encourage you not to just think about exercise when you want to lose weight but as a way of life. Think of exercise as involving your mind and your body, a way of letting off steam and cleansing the day away.

People always talk about breakfast being the most important meal of the day – I agree. It is also my favourite meal of the day and if I could eat breakfast food all day I would. However, a lot of people skip breakfast because they just don’t have time for it. When you eat breakfast, it kicks your metabolism into gear. In case you are interested, it does this through a process called thermogenesis, which is the body burning calories to produce heat and therefore stimulates your metabolism. So not only does it fill an empty stomach, provide you with the essential nutrients to start your day it also helps get your metabolism moving – winner all round!

Empowered Women, Empower Women.

Never has this statement felt truer. I was speaking to a friend yesterday and I felt totally overwhelmed by her positivity about life. She was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer and had to have an emergency operation only last week. Cancer always comes as a shock to anyone who is diagnosed with it. It is a word that is associated with horror, trauma and upset and even if you are lucky enough to be able to have it removed, it is still something that affects you every day.

What’s your name, age and where do you come from? My name is India, I’m 26 and I’m from Norfolk.

Do you exercise regularly? What kind of exercises do you enjoy? On a good week, I exercise about 6 times but this varies depending on how I feel. At least 4 times. I really enjoy going to gym classes because of the variety it gives me. I also enjoy running but not really on the treadmill!
